The police in Singapore are currently looking into a situation that involved a suspicious-looking bag with wires that was discovered in Queenstown in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 11). According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), they received a report at around 2.35am about an unattended bag containing an item with wires along Stirling Road. After conducting security checks, it was determined that the item in question was actually a battery from a personal mobility device.
A video shared on the social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote, captured the black bag sitting in the middle of the road near the True Way Presbyterian Church, just outside a car park gantry. The bag had a blue object and some wires protruding from it, giving it the appearance of an ordinary schoolbag. The user who posted the video speculated that it might be a bomb, causing some concern among onlookers. One person even approached the bag to take a closer look before being urged to move away by others present.
Upon the arrival of the police, five officers were observed inspecting the bag without wearing any protective gear, as noted by the Xiaohongshu user. Subsequently, the police set up a tent over the bag and stationed several police cars to block off the road, coinciding with a heavy rainstorm that began. The rain eventually caused the bag to become partially submerged in water and float down the road due to the strong current. At some point, the police tent was removed, but the officers continued their work in the rain, eventually confirming that the object in the bag was indeed a battery from a personal mobility device.
Despite the false alarm, police investigations are still ongoing to ensure the safety and security of the area. “The police are taking this security threat seriously and will not hesitate to take action against those responsible for causing public alarm,” stated the SPF.
As the incident unfolded, it highlighted the importance of vigilance and quick responses when it comes to potential security threats. Although the situation turned out to be a false alarm, the swift actions taken by the police demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the safety of the community. It’s not really clear why someone would leave a suspicious bag in the middle of the road, but thankfully, it was just a battery and not something more dangerous. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like people need to be more mindful of their belongings and the potential impact it can have on others.
In conclusion, while the incident may have caused some panic and disruption, it ultimately served as a reminder of the need for everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly. The actions of the police in responding to the situation swiftly and effectively are commendable, and it is reassuring to know that measures are in place to ensure the safety and security of the public. Let’s hope that incidents like these serve as a wake-up call for everyone to be more mindful and responsible in their actions.
