Explore the Keppel Coastal Trail at Labrador Nature Park

Singapore welcomed a new addition to its nature reserves – the Keppel Coastal Trail at Labrador Nature Park. This 340m-long trail opened its doors to the public on Saturday, January 25th, offering visitors a unique experience in exploring the coastal beach forest habitat.

Trail Features and Development

The Keppel Coastal Trail comprises a 90m-long elevated wheelchair-accessible boardwalk, providing stunning views of the sea, and a 250m-long path that takes visitors through the coastal beach forest. Developed with a S$1 million donation from Keppel’s philanthropic arm, Keppel Care Foundation, the trail underwent active restoration to enhance its ecological significance.

Flora and Fauna

Visitors can encounter a variety of wildlife along the trail, including the majestic White-bellied Sea Eagle, the Paradise Tree Snake, and the vibrant Yellow-rumped Flycatcher. The trail is also home to approximately 100 species of trees and shrubs, including native coastal plants that serve as vital sources of food and shelter for the local fauna.

Community Involvement and Sustainability

During the opening ceremony, Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, along with Keppel representatives and volunteers, planted 55 trees along the trail. This initiative is part of Keppel’s commitment to planting 10,000 trees in parks and nature reserves across Singapore, contributing to the preservation of nature and biodiversity.

Future Plans and Expansion

In an exciting announcement, Mr. Lee revealed plans to extend Pasir Panjang Park by two hectares, connecting it to other green spaces via the Park Connector Network. This expansion aims to create a seamless network of nature parks, promoting biodiversity and ecological resilience in Singapore.

As we witness the growth and development of these natural spaces, it is crucial for us to come together as a community to support environmental conservation efforts. Whether it’s planting trees, participating in biodiversity surveys, or sharing innovative ideas, each one of us plays a vital role in safeguarding our planet for future generations. Let’s embrace the beauty of nature and work towards a sustainable future, hand in hand with our local communities and organizations like Keppel.
