Singapore Police Issue Warning About Fake Websites and Infographics Targeting Government Payouts

In a digital age where online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, the Singapore Police Force issued a cautionary statement on Friday, February 14, regarding a resurgence of fraudulent activities involving fake websites and infographics related to government cash-like payouts.

The scams, which often take the form of fabricated graphics or posts circulating on social media platforms, particularly target unsuspecting individuals by offering false promises of Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers and cash payouts such as the Assurance Package Cash and Goods and Services Tax Voucher (GSTV) – Cash.

Rise of Fake Websites and Phishing Attempts

One prevalent tactic employed by scammers is the creation of counterfeit Instagram accounts featuring deceptive infographics that prompt users to claim their CDC vouchers through a bogus RedeemSG website link. To the untrained eye, these fake websites closely mimic the appearance of legitimate government portals, making it difficult for individuals to discern the authenticity of the platform.

Similarly, Telegram users have also fallen victim to fraudulent schemes, receiving messages containing Budget 2025 infographics purportedly from the Ministry of Finance (MOF). These messages encourage recipients to click on phishing links under the guise of applying for and collecting their cash payouts. Subsequently, victims are coerced into divulging sensitive personal information, including banking details and personal credentials.

Official Guidelines and Recommendations

In light of these concerning developments, the police emphasize the importance of exercising vigilance when claiming government payouts. It is crucial for individuals to be aware that only one member per household is authorized to claim CDC vouchers online through Singpass. Subsequently, each household will receive a unique CDC voucher link via SMS from the sender “gov.sg,” which can be conveniently shared with other family members.

Furthermore, individuals should be reassured that no additional steps are required on their part to receive cash payouts like the Assurance Package Cash, as these funds will be automatically disbursed to eligible citizens through PayNow-NRIC, bank accounts, or GovCash. To access reliable and up-to-date information regarding the CDC Vouchers scheme, Assurance Package payments, or GSTV benefits, individuals are encouraged to visit the official websites dedicated to these initiatives.

In a firm statement, the police underscored that legitimate government entities will never request individuals to disclose personal or banking information, transfer money, or download mobile applications from unofficial sources to claim benefits or vouchers. The Ministry of Finance exclusively communicates official updates through its authorized social media channels, an important distinction to bear in mind when navigating online information.

To mitigate the risk of falling prey to these fraudulent activities, the public is advised to adopt precautionary measures such as installing the ScamShield mobile app and promptly reaching out to the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline at 1799 if faced with suspicions or uncertainties.

By remaining informed and exercising discernment in online interactions, individuals can safeguard themselves against potential scams and protect their personal information from malicious actors seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in the digital landscape.
