Man Threatens to Post Nude Photos of Ex After Paying for Abortion
SINGAPORE: A disturbing case has come to light where a 28-year-old man threatened to post nude photos of his ex-girlfriend after paying for her abortion. The man pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including accessing her accounts without permission and threatening to distribute intimate images of the victim.
Intimate Relationship Turns Ugly
The man and woman, whose identities remain protected by a gag order, met while working at the same cafe and were in a relationship from January to July 2023. Despite breaking up, they continued to be intimate until about September 2023. The situation took a dark turn when the woman discovered she was pregnant in October 2023 and informed the man. Believing he was the father, he paid for her abortion.
Privacy Violations and Threats
Things escalated when the man accessed the woman’s Google account without her permission and discovered messages suggesting she had been intimate with someone else after their breakup. In a bid to confront her about the paternity of the pregnancy, he accessed her email, social media, and dating app accounts without consent. He even changed her passwords and threatened to post intimate photos of her online if she did not comply with his demands.
Legal Consequences
The man now faces multiple charges under the Computer Misuse Act and for threatening to distribute intimate images of the victim. While he has pleaded guilty to some counts, additional charges will be considered during sentencing in February 2023. The prosecution is seeking a jail term of about six months to eight-and-a-half months, along with a fine ranging from S$4,000 to S$5,000.
