Singapore: Nominations for the 2025 Goh Chok Tong Enable Awards (GCTEA) have opened, and you better hurry up because the deadline is on Jun 25. The joint press release by Mediacorp and disability agency SG Enable announced this exciting news on Wednesday (May 7).
Now in its seventh year, the awards are a big deal as they are a key initiative of the Goh Chok Tong Enable Fund. This community fund is administered by SG Enable and supported by Mediacorp, which means it’s kind of a big deal. The whole point of these awards is to give opportunities to persons with disabilities to contribute to society and live their best lives by providing financial aid, supporting their dreams, and giving them awards.
There are two categories for the awards. The GCTEA (Achievement) is all about celebrating individuals with disabilities who have achieved great things in their respective fields and inspire others. Up to three lucky winners will each receive S$10,000 (US$7,700). And get this, nominating organizations can get S$5,000 if their nominee wins. It’s like a win-win situation!
The other category is the GCTEA (Promise), which encourages individuals with disabilities who show potential to achieve great things in their talents and serve the community. Up to 10 individuals will each receive S$5,000. That’s a lot of cash to help them pursue their dreams.
To be eligible for both categories, nominees must have disabilities, be Singapore citizens or permanent residents, and be a certain age. For the GCTEA (Achievement) awards, they must be 18 years and older, while for the GCTEA (Promise) awards, they must be 12 years and older. This is to ensure that the winners are deserving and ready to take on the world.
In the past six editions, there have been a total of 84 awardees, with 13 individuals honored last year. Mr. Michael Ngu, chairman of the GCTEA evaluation panel and SG Enable board member, said that the awards have been recognizing people with disabilities who have overcome challenges and achieved great things. It’s like a celebration of resilience and success, just like how Singapore has thrived in its 60 years of independence.
If you want to know more about the awards, how to nominate someone, and the evaluation process, you can check out the Goh Chok Tong Enable Fund website. And mark your calendars because this year’s winners will be announced in November. It’s going to be a big reveal, so stay tuned for that!
So, don’t wait too long to nominate someone for the GCTEA. This could be their chance to shine and make a difference in the world. Who knows, they could be the next big thing in Singapore!
