Bedok North’s New Community Hub to Feature Therapy Cats and Shared Kitchen

Singapore is set to welcome a new community hub in Bedok North, complete with exciting facilities like a shared kitchen for home-based businesses and a therapy centre where residents can interact with rescue cats. The project, unveiled by the People’s Association (PA) and social enterprise City Sprouts, is expected to be ready by the end of 2025. Situated at the former Kampong Chai Chee Community Centre on Bedok North Ave 1, this upcoming hub aims to be a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive space for all.

Exciting Features Await Residents

Residents of Bedok North can look forward to a range of amenities at the new hub, including a community garden for growing produce, a multi-purpose hall for sports and events, a podcast recording studio, and a co-working space for budding entrepreneurs. Additionally, there will be a dedicated area equipped with a 3D printer, laser cutter, and digital plotter for children and youths to explore their creativity.

City Sprouts has been chosen as the master tenant and operator of the facility, partnering with organizations like MENDAKI, Masjid Al-Ansar Mosque, Play! Pickle, and VIVITA Singapore to bring this vision to life. The hub is part of the East Coast Plan, aimed at creating a caring, vibrant, and green community.

A Community-Driven Initiative

The concept for this intergenerational space was born out of thorough consultation with residents and community partners. Older residents expressed a desire for a space that promotes community bonding, especially among different age groups, while youths emphasized the need for skill-building opportunities and engaging activities. Member of Parliament Tan Kiat How highlighted the changing demographic in Bedok and Kampong Chai Chee, stressing the importance of repurposing existing buildings to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Mr. Tan encouraged active participation from youths in shaping the future of the hub, emphasizing the significance of intergenerational bonding within the community. This collaborative effort between residents, stakeholders, and policymakers reflects a shared commitment to creating a space that fosters connection, creativity, and community spirit. With the inclusion of therapy cats and shared kitchen facilities, the Bedok North community hub is poised to become a hub of activity, innovation, and inclusivity for years to come.
