Star Wars Group Holds Lightsaber Duels at Wake to Honour Late Member

In a heartwarming and unconventional tribute, members of a Star Wars lightsaber-duelling group gathered at Dawson Road on Tuesday night to pay homage to one of their own who had recently passed away. The group, known as The Saber Authority, consisting of Star Wars enthusiasts and lightsaber aficionados, came together for a special duelling session to remember their fallen comrade.

The event, which took place at around 9.30pm, saw about 30 individuals igniting their lightsabers on the field. Each member engaged in friendly lightsaber matches, with bouts lasting no longer than 30 seconds. Despite the competitive nature of the duels, a member was overheard reminding everyone to avoid targeting the legs during the matches, emphasizing safety and respect within the group.

One touching moment witnessed during the gathering was a child being guided by an adult to participate in a couple of duels. The crowd erupted in cheers, showing support and encouragement for the young padawan-in-training. As the duels came to an end, the group gathered together to bid their final farewells and share heartfelt memories of their departed friend before dispersing.

Founded in 2014, The Saber Authority holds regular meetings on Sundays at the National Stadium, where members hone their lightsaber skills through sparring sessions. For those interested in joining the group, a trial lightsaber duelling class is available for S$25, with an eight-week Apprentice Intake course designed to train students in various duelling techniques.

In a touching display of camaraderie, a member of The Saber Authority mentioned that the group would be taking a brief hiatus to mourn their loss, with the possibility of resuming sessions in February. While the lightsabers may be momentarily silenced, the bond shared among these Star Wars enthusiasts remains strong, serving as a testament to the enduring spirit of friendship and unity within the community.
